NeonBand

As my bachelor’s thesis I designed and built a custom energy efficient SmartWatch with built-in RGB LEDs for novel notification feedback. The watch consists of a nrf52832 microcontroller, an OLED display, a MPU6050 3-axis accelerometer/gyroscope and a 500mAh battery. It is controlled via BLE from an android application. The watch can display the time, date, battery status, notifications and light up addressable ws2812 LEDs embedded in the watch band. The band is 3D printed from flexible filament and contains 30 LEDs. The case is also 3D printed in PLA.

Printed Circuit Board

Below you can see the front and back of the custom PCB. The PCB was designed in KiCad. Below the PCB the used schematic is shown.

3D Printed Case

The case consists of four main parts. A top element which contains all components and a bottom element which is screwed on from the bottom and closes the case. On the sides are two custom watch bands which are hollow and contain the LED strips.

Android App

An android app can be used to customise the actions of the watch on a per-notification basis. Vibration, light and color can be set.
